Students of all ages can benefit from participating in math competitions. Competitive, timed tests allow children to showcase their knowledge and compare themselves to their peers. They can also be a confidence booster and, in later grades, look great on college applications. MAA Competitions
AMC8 (Grade 8)
Date: January 18th - January 24, 2024
About the Contest: The American Mathematics Contest (AMC) is a challenging and prestigious national competition, administered by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA). Recommended for students in grade 8, the AMC 8 consists of 25 problems - all based on knowledge and logic. Read more>>
AMC 10/12 - Contest A and B
About the Contest: The AMC 10 and AMC 12 are both 25-question, 75-minute, multiple-choice examinations in high school mathematics designed to promote the development and enhancement of problem-solving skills. The AMC 10 is for students in 10th grade and below and covers the high school curriculum up to 10th grade. The AMC 12 covers the entire high school curriculum, including trigonometry, advanced algebra, and advanced geometry, but excluding calculus. Read more>>
What is the difference between the A and B versions?
Both the A and B versions of the AMC 10 and the AMC 12 have the same number of questions, the same scoring, and the same rules for administration. The only differences are the competition dates and that each version has a distinct set of questions, although the two examinations are designed to be equal in difficulty and distribution of topics.

The AIME (American Invitational Mathematics Examination)
About the Contest: The AIME is a 15-question, 3-hour examination in which each answer is an integer number from 0 to 999.
AIME is an intermediate examination between the AMC 10 or AMC 12 and the USAMO. All students who took the AMC 10 and had a score of 120 or more out of a possible 150, or were in the top 2.5% also qualify for the AIME. All students who took the AMC 12 and achieved a score of 100 or more out of a possible 150 or were in the top 5% are invited to take the AIME. Read more>>

MOEMS (Math Olympiads for Elementary and Middle Schools)

About the Contest: MOEMS, short for Math Olympiads for Elementary and Middle Schools is a large and popular mathematics competition for students in grades 4 through 8. It is held yearly from November through March with one test administered each month. Tests are given at individual schools and results are sent to MOEMS for scoring. Read more>>

Math Kangaroo (Grade 1-12)
Date: Thursday, March 21, 2024 (Registration Opens September 15th)
About the Contest: The Math Kangaroo is a great way to introduce elementary school students to the world of competitive math. Math Kangaroo's focus is on improving students' math scores and teaching them new strategies for solving word and logic problems, helping them with critical thinking and gaining confidence in the classroom. Open to students in grades 1 - 12, the competition offers 24 problems to be solved within 75 minutes for grades 1-5 and 30 questions for students in grades 5 and up. Read More>>

International Math Contest (Online Challenge)
Date: February 2024 (Registration Opens January 1st)
About the Contest: The International Math Contest is a 30-minute Online Challenge based on leading math curricula from across the world. Participation in the challenge is FREE. The IMC enables parents to compare their children's level of knowledge to that of their international peers. Read more>>
IMC Round 2
Date: April 2024 (By invitation only to qualifiers from IMC Online Challenge)
About the Contest: The first round of the IMC is online, with detailed analysis emailed to parents within weeks. Qualifying students proceed to the IMC Round 2, a written competition that keeps with the rich tradition and prestige of mathematical Olympiads, featuring challenging non-routine problems that promote a deeper level of thinking. The Purple Comet! Math Meet
Date: April 2 - 11, 2024 (Team registration begins February 1st)
About the Contest: The Purple Comet! Math Meet is a free, annual, international, online, team, mathematics competition designed for middle and high school students that has been held every year since 2003. Teams of from one to six students compete by submitting solutions to a list of mathematics problems. There is a ten-day window during which teams may compete choosing a start time most convenient for them. The problems range in difficulty from fairly easy to extremely challenging. Read more>>
