This course uses RSM's unique methodology to work with Kindergarten students to develop abstract thinking and reasoning ability. Our problems, carefully built as child-initiated play, spark an early interest in mathematics. As children play, they develop the ability to speak and discuss mathematical ideas in an exciting way. We will explore numbers and the connections between them, study geometric shapes, solve logical puzzles, recognize patterns, practice math language, and develop problem posing and problem solving skills. This course prepares students for our Grade 1 Advanced level.

This course is an entry point for 1st grade students who are new to our program and approach. Our unique methodology serves these main goals: 1) spark an early interest and confidence in one’s mathematical abilities, 2) nurture the natural agility of young minds to explore challenging concepts, 3) lay the groundwork for higher-level reasoning and logical thinking, and 4) develop computational proficiency. Students develop proficiency in arithmetic operations and properties of numbers. They develop strategies to solve word problems. We introduce abstract mathematical concepts such as variables through exploration and play. Students use variables to write expressions and to work with equations. After completing this course, students continue to our Grade 2 Advanced Level.

This course is an entry point for 2nd grade students who are new to our program and approach. The program is built to spur students to use logic and reasoning in order to develop strategies to calculate efficiently, and to solve multi-step word problems and logic puzzles. We incorporate students' understanding of numbers and operations and introduce the concepts of place value, variables, equations, multiplication and division, and properties and features of geometric shapes. After completing this course, students continue to our 3rd grade Advanced level.

Students who complete our 1st Grade Advanced course continue to this level. Advanced level students develop their skills to proficiency and continue to strengthen their logic and reasoning abilities. We use a variety of tools to develop strategic and efficient methods to solve problems. Students learn to communicate their mathematical thinking to peers and to their teacher. The scope of topics includes multi-digit addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, an introduction to fractions, calculating the perimeter and area of geometric shapes, modeling with variables, and solving equations. After completing this course, students continue to our 3rd grade Advanced or Honors level, based on their teacher’s recommendation.

After completing this course, students continue to our 4th grade Advanced or Honors level, based on their teacher’s recommendation.

Students master computations, the order of operations, study fractions and decimals, inequalities, and develop mathematical reasoning by solving word problems, analysing metric relationships, and working with algebraic expressions and multi-step equations. After completing this course, students enter our 5th grade Advanced level.

Students who have completed Grade 3 Accelerated or Grade 3 Advanced may continue to this course. The methodology prioritizes the use of logic and reasoning when solving arithmetic, algebraic, and word problems. The curriculum emphasizes fluency in computations, including all four operations, exponents, and the order of operations. Core topics include: rational numbers and operations with them, comparison, metric relationships analysis, inequalities, algebraic expressions, multi-step equations. Students entering this course are ready for the challenge of independent thinking. They are ready to explore a range of advanced topics, including combinatorics, probability, coordinate geometry, elements of number theory, and data representation.

This course is an entry point for 5th grade students who are new to our program and unique approach. We focus on preparing the students for middle school with a sensible mastery of computations and order of operations with rational numbers, fractions and decimals, solving equations, and working with algebraic expressions. The curriculum emphasizes modeling when solving various types of word problems. Core concepts include: inequalities, area and volume applications, coordinate geometry, introduction to percents, elements of number theory, and data organization, algebraic expressions and solving equations. After completing this course, students continue to our 6th grade Advanced level.

Students who have completed Grade 4 Accelerated or Grade 4 Advanced may continue to this course. We focus on preparing students for middle school with a mastery of computations, solving equations, and working with algebraic expressions. The curriculum emphasizes modeling when solving various types of word problems. The concepts covered in grade 4 are expanded and taken to the next level. Students explore the abstract nature of numbers and operations by studying number systems with bases other than 10. After completing this course, students are ready to enter our 6th grade Advanced or Honors level, based on their teacher’s recommendation.

Students who have successfully completed Grade 4 Advanced or Honors, or those who receive a recommendation following an evaluation, may continue to this course. The core concepts include number theory, reasoning and proofs, number systems in different bases, word problems and modeling with equations and inequalities, percents, patterns and sequences, relations, Pythagorean theorem proof and pythagorean triplets, properties of parallel and perpendicular lines, and geometrical construction problems. Students also regularly explore competition-style problems.

This course is an entry point for 6th grade students who are new to our program and unique approach. The curriculum prepares students for Algebra I. This course starts with building a foundation in working with positive and negative integers and fractions. We then continue to extend these concepts to modeling with ratios, proportions, direct and inverse variations, percent and their application, the cartesian plane, and absolute value equations and graphs. After completing this course, students enter our Algebra I Advanced level.

Students who have completed Grade 5 Accelerated or Grade 5 Advanced may continue to this course.We build on the foundation of 5th grade and study ratios, proportions, the application of direct and inverse variations, application of percents, the cartesian plane, and perform a deeper study of absolute value equations, inequalities, and graphs and their transformations. After completing this course, students are ready to enter our 7th grade Advanced or Honors level, based on their teacher’s recommendation.

We offer a three year Euclidean Geometry course in order to keep with international standards and to ensure deep coverage and thorough understanding of concepts. This course is followed by Geometry II Advanced (7th grade), and Geometry III Advanced (8th grade). In this course, students will learn how to construct logic arguments, and cover topics including: properties and criteria of parallel lines, triangles, congruent triangles, inequalities in triangles, and the study of polygons and 3D shapes.

Students who have successfully completed Grade 5 Advanced or Honors, or those who receive a recommendation following an evaluation, may continue to this course. Students in this course are led through a rigorous curriculum where they dive deeply into topics including ratios, proportions, inverse and direct variations, percent, absolute value equations, inequalities and their graphs, and linear functions. These topics are mastered at the SAT and ACT level.

Students who have completed Grade 6 Accelerated or Grade 6 Advanced may continue to this course. This is a rigorous algebra curriculum that expands on algebraic topics introduced in Grade 6. In this course students develop proficiency in graphing linear equations and analyzing the connection between graphs and equations, systems of linear equations and their applications, work with exponents, polynomials, master factoring techniques to solve equations, and word problems. After completing this course, students continue to our 8th grade Advanced or Honors level, based on their teacher’s recommendation.

This course is the second in our three-year high school geometry series. We offer a three year Geometry course in order to keep with international standards and to ensure deep coverage and thorough understanding of concepts. Topics covered in this course include: types of triangles and their properties, special right triangles, properties of quadrilaterals, and construction with a compass and straightedge. After completing this course, students continue to our Geometry III Advanced or Honors course.

Students who have successfully completed Grade 6 Advanced or Honors, or those who receive a recommendation following an evaluation, may continue to this course. Students in this course are led through a rigorous curriculum where they learn and master fundamental algebraic concepts including the equation of a line, the rules of exponents, polynomials, factoring techniques, and systems of linear equations and their applications. Students also learn about functions, including linear functions and graphs, quadratic equations, radicals, an introduction to logarithms, and set theory. We encourage our honors students to participate in math olympiads by studying AMC-like problems. We also include SAT-style problems to build a base for standardized tests.

This is the first year of our two-year Geometry series. Offering two years of Euclidean geometry instruction ensures deep coverage and thorough understanding of concepts, preparing students to succeed in high school and on standardized tests. Special attention in this course is given to writing formal proofs and topics covered include: angles and their classifications, parallel lines, triangles and their properties, special right triangles, and quadrilaterals. After completing this course, students continue to our Geometry III Advanced or Honors course.

Students who complete Algebra I Accelerated or Algebra I Advanced continue to this course. This rigorous curriculum covers advanced algebra topics. Students master concepts introduced in our Algebra I course by studying the next level of their application. Students learn to analyze given information, make conjectures and provide convincing arguments to prove statements. Core topics include polynomials, quadratic equations and Vieta’s theorem, relations and functions, algebraic fractions, and rational and radical equations and inequalities. Students also study radicals, equations with radicals, and applications of algebraic fractions. After completing this course, students continue to our 9th grade Advanced or Honors level, based on their teacher’s recommendation.

Students who have successfully completed Algebra I Advanced or Honors, or those who receive a recommendation following an evaluation, may continue to this course. Students in this course are led through a rigorous curriculum that includes a thorough study of functions and their properties, applications, and graphs, and the idea of optimization. Students learn important tools that they will use in future classes. Our problems prepare students for the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth SAT. We also encourage our honors students to participate in math olympiads by including AMC-like problems in the lessons.

This course is the final year in our three-year geometry series. We offer a three year Geometry course in keeping with international standards and to ensure deep coverage and thorough understanding of concepts. Problems in this rigorous course are structurally complex. Students are expected to apply knowledge of multiple theorems in construction of proofs. Topics include: a further study of triangles, similarity, transformations with rigid motions and dilations, area comparison as a method to derive/prove important theorems, a complete study of circles. After completing this course, students will be ready to tackle geometry portions on subject tests, participate in Talent Search programs at top universities, and, based on the school and district - may have met curriculum requirements for geometry. Following this course students may continue to our “Trigonometry I and Geo+ Honors” course, a prerequisite for PreCalculus.

This course is an entry point for 8th grade students who are new to our program and unique approach. This rigorous curriculum covers advanced algebra topics. Students master concepts introduced in our Algebra I course by studying the next level of their application. This course covers topics required for calculus, college-level math classes, and SAT subject tests. Students master Algebra II concepts while applying them to next-level topics such as logarithmic and exponential expressions, equations, inequalities, and functions; sequences and series; complex numbers; polynomial functions and their graphs; and rational functions. After this class students continue to Precalculus II Advanced or Honors.

Students are led through a rigorous and challenging curriculum. This course covers topics required for calculus, and college-level math classes. Students master Algebra II concepts while applying them to next-level topics such as logarithmic and exponential expressions, equations, inequalities, and functions; sequences and series; complex numbers; polynomial functions and their graphs; and rational functions. The program also includes topics on probability and counting. After completing this class, students continue to Intro to Calculus Honors.

This class complements Precalculus and we highly recommend students take the courses together. Problems in this rigorous course are structurally complex. This course includes topics in analytic geometry, including conic sections, and complete study of trigonometry with applications and trigonometric functions. After this class student are ready to continue to Intro to Calc class where they apply trig in calculus problems.

This course is an entry point for students new to our program. The course thoroughly reviews Algebra II concepts while applying them to next-level topics such as logarithmic and exponential expressions, equations, inequalities, and functions; sequences and series; complex numbers; polynomial functions and their graphs; and rational functions. This course prepares students for standardized tests and college-level classes. After completing this course, students continue to Precalculus Advanced or Honors.
